Individual counseling in Windsor Colorado

Do you remember a time when anxiety wasn’t taking over your life? When your relationship actually felt easy and fun? When you had a sense of who you were and felt comfortable in your own skin?

Maybe those are distant memories. Maybe you haven’t ever felt like that. Either way - don’t you wish you had the tools to live the life you want to live?

You’ve come to the right person.

I’m Samantha, a licensed marriage and family therapist, that helps women, couples, and LGBTQ+ clients find calm, connection, and congruence in their lives.

I want to equip you with the tools (that actually work for you) to feel more empowered in yourself, your relationships, and your life.

Most therapy approaches for anxiety these days tell you to practice breathing, go on a walk, and journal. This leads so many clients with anxiety to feel frustrated, stuck, and not making much progress.

And, most therapy approaches for couples counseling give you tools, but they never get into the nitty gritty of what is causing the issue. This leaves you and your partner feeling good initially, but quickly falling back into old patterns.

I know that your circumstances are unique.

That’s why we focus on the patterns that got you here and the themes that are keeping you stuck.

Every step is tailored to you - your life, your relationships, your resources, your struggles - and always with your end goal in mind.

Hey! I’m Samantha (or Sam – whichever you feel more comfortable calling me) and my pronouns are she/her.

As a counselor, I am dedicated to helping people experiencing anxiety, challenging relationships, and identity transitions find tangible tools to engage, process emotions, communicate, and feel confident in themselves.

My training in marriage and family therapy, gender and sexuality studies, and somatic experiencing means I have the expertise you need and deserve in a therapist.

At the end of the day, you want to know you’re working with someone who “gets” what it means to be a human struggling with anxiety and relationship issues, right?

Not only do I have the clinical training to help you reach your goals, I also have the personal experiences of life feeling totally shitty.

I know what it feels like to have everything look great on the surface and feel like an imposter because things are falling apart on the inside.

I’ve had bouts where my anxiety has kept me shut in, spiraling down a path of self-hatred, terrified that there is no way out (and if I’m being honest, I still visit that place from time to time).

I’ve had my share of really incredible relationships and terrible “what was I thinking?” ones.

In short, I’m a human who wants to give you space to be a human too.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I’m a bit eclectic in nature, pulling ideas from various counseling modalities that will guide us in identifying your thoughts, feeling your feelings, and shifting your behaviors in ways that feel doable for you to help you meet your goals. (If you’re interested in the specifics, I utilize emotionally focused therapy, person centered therapy, and the Gottman method with some cognitive behavioral therapy and somatic experiencing thrown in the mix.)

  • First, we discuss the problems bringing you in and what you’d like to gain from therapy. We’ll talk about your current life circumstances, your relationships, and how you spend your time.

Through you sharing your story, we begin to identify your specific goals and the barriers that are getting in the way of you reaching them.

Next, we focus on healing previous experiences and patterns. We also work together to find tangible tools that actually work for you.

You then go out into the real world and practice these tools, reporting back to me what works and what doesn’t so we can continue to modify things in a way that best fits for you.

  • My story starts with growing up in the Midwest (which really just translates to “steak and potatoes is my favorite meal.”) Although it will always be home, my partner and I traded the plains for the mountains as soon as we could. I’ve adopted the Colorado ways of brewing my own kombucha and hiking at every possible opportunity (so if you have any suggestions of trails with lake views, let me know!) When I’m not with clients you can find me napping, gardening, playing volleyball, falling over in yoga, and taking way too many pictures of my cat, Molly.

Once we complete a free phone consultation and decide that we are a good fit to work together, we will schedule a time and a date for our first session that is convenient for you. I offer both in-person and virtual sessions for your comfort. I can't wait to meet you!
